Dual Language Classroom at Washington Elementary School

Daniel Moran and Diane Stevens

Fremont High graduate Daniel Moran was hired this year to teach the dual-language program at Washington elementary school. Daniel is Iowa State University graduate and his student teaching included placement in a classroom in Mexico.  He taught for 6 years in the Omaha Public Schools and has traveled to Mexico 3 times and to Spain once to support his language experience. Daniel also currently contracts with Fremont Public Schools, Nebraska Legal Aid, Nebraska Mediation Board and the Department of State. He has translated a writing series which was published in 2011.  He has numerous awards to his credit including the Extra Mile for Education  and a Spanish Immersion Grant from OPS in Omaha.

Diane Stevens  received her undergraduate degree from UNO, her Master’s from Doane and an Administrative certificate from Concordia University.  She also attended and was an adjunct professor at South Dakota University, Vermillion.  Diane is in her 25th year at Fremont Public Schools.  She has held many titles including Reading Specialist, Reading Recovery Teacher, K-5 Literacy Coordinator and now Principal.

Diane has been recognized 3 times for exemplary service by the Board of Education,  and has presented twice at the National Reading Recovery Leaders Institute.   Diane is an active member at First Lutheran where she teaches Sunday School,  and vacation bible school. She has also be on several mission trips to Mexico.
