Shawn Shanahan, Executive Director of Fremont Area United Way, has a compassion and desire to help others. As Executive Director, it has allowed her to do just that. Shawn has always worked in the human services field. Shawn had been in leadership positions for 16 of the 20 years serving the Fremont community as well as the state.

Shawn is a native of Fremont attending college at Kearney State College now known as Kearney University. Shawn is proud to live, work and support the Fremont community.

Her professional path has been a director for Pathfinder Support services, Director for Mosaic in Omaha, Director for Child Welfare Director for Heartland Family Services, Residential State Director and Northern State Director for Boys and Girls Home and Executive Director for Fremont Area United Way.

Shawn and her husband have 5 children Allyssia, Cameron, Conner, Shawnda and Beau.

Shawn has been involved in many other pieces to support our community such as Kiwanis, Member of Dodge County Collaborative, past Board member for the Northern Advisory Council for Child Welfare, Fremont Philanthropy group, Region 6 Board member and leading Early Childhood Coalition.

Shawn enjoys her role at Fremont Area United Way and is proud of four years of improving outcomes, addressing community initiatives, building collaboration and exceeds campaign goals every year. In addition to all the great things happening at United Way Shawn has also taken the lead in seeking additional funds to support community initiatives, she has built a community collaboration that is working on School Readiness, Social and Emotional Wellbeing and Prevention. The community collaboration and partnerships has allowed United Way to lead social change in partnership with other community partners. The coalition is seeing great results and together is accomplishing things none can achieve alone.

Shawn has been recently recognized for her work in leading social change and building the Early Childhood Coalition.
