High School Juniors Selected for Cornhusker Girls State are Selected

High School juniors have been selected to represent Fremont at Cornhusker Girls State, June 4th – 10th, 2017 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln city campus and the State Capitol.  Sponsors of the delegates are Fremont Rotary and the American Legion Unit 20.

Cornhusker Girls State, inaugurated in Nebraska in 1939, is an effort on the part of the American Legion Auxiliary to provide young women of Nebraska with the knowledge and the fundamental principles of American government through actual practice.

Through unique citizenship training program, auxiliary members guide the girls of the state toward an understanding, to appreciate their roles as United States citizens.

Cornhusker Girls State is conducted on a “learn by doing” basis whereby the selected delegates will learn the mechanics of city, county, and state government, and the functioning practices of political parties.

The delegates are from Archbishop Bergan High School: Katie Mae Sleister, daughter of Matt and Julie Sleister; Ameila Jo Frost, daughter of Niki Herre; Meghan J. Dahlauser, daughter of Rebecca Dalhauser and Shay Ranchod.

All states, with the exception of Hawaii, conduct Girls State sessions as their major project of Americanism.  Each summer approximately 20,000 young women participate in Girls State sessions across the nation.

Fremont Rotary are the selection committee and financial sponsors delegates to attend Cornhusker Girls State.
