Rotary – Friday June 2, 2017 – Lacey Studnicka and Shafiq Jahish – Refugee Program at Lutheran Family Services

Dear Rotarians

Our recent observance of Memorial Day is always kind of bittersweet for me. I had a total of sixteen pairs of aunts and uncles so we had a slew of first cousins.  Some of them served in WWII, some of them never came home…..alive.  I had a high school chum killed in Korea.  And though I was lucky enough to never have seen any combat I’m very proud of having served my country in the military. Got paid a whopping $222.30 per month. Aah…those were the days.

Back to the here and now, this Friday Ryan Fiala is hosting two folks; Lacey Studnicka and Shafiq Jahish from the refugee program at Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska.  The refugee program at LFS is not to be confused with and does not work with illegal immigrants.  Lacey is a graduate of UNO and has worked at LFS for 15 years.  Shafiq has served as an interpreter in Afghanistan. I have a feeling these folks can give us a different world perspective.

Pickup your membership dues envelope at one of the June meetings and help save your club postage.  At the same time notify Don K, secretary, of any changes to your personal information for the yearbook.

Thanks for putting up with my wordy Emails this past year, my term will soon be over.
