Rotary, December 2, 2016 – Dr. Joyce Winfield – Author of “Forever Heroes.”

Dear Rotarians,

I’m going to skip saying “I hope you had a great Thanksgiving with family and/or friends”.  But I know you did, so let’s cut to the chase.  This week Dr.  Joyce Winfield, hosted by Kevin Earleywine, will be presenting a talk about her experiences writing the book “Forever Heroes: A Collection of World War II Stories from Nebraska Veterans”  World War II, that epic, bloody battle fought on two fronts in two different parts of the world killed several of my older friends and some relatives.  The stories, these veterans Dr. Winfield interviewed for her book, surely will be interesting.

I had a conversation with our member, Barb Johnson, and she related that she hopes to be recovered sufficiently to rejoin us after Christmas, if we still wanted her. What a no-brainer my answer to that was. Mark Johnson, as you know, has served us capably, when he could be in attendance, and we are appreciative.

One further item:  unless there is a huge cry of outrage we will NOT be ringing bells for The Salvation Army this year.  Our usual spot in the lobby of Hy-Vee was snatched from us somehow and we thought most of you would not like to be in the weather.

Thanks for all you do for Rotary!  See you Friday.

President Darrell
