President’s Weekly Comments – January 11, 2016

Dear Rotarians,

This week’s host is Russ Peterson, and his guest speaker is Chris Leaver.  Chris is a Financial Consultant with Thrivent Investment Management.  He is also President of the Low Income Ministry Board of Directors, and his program will center around the LIM and what it does for the community.  Chris also is on the Board of Directors for the Habitat for Humanity, of which I am also a member.  I know Chris, and this should be an excellent program, so please plan to attend.

Our drawing winner last week was Steve Navarrette, who went home with $40.   Also, we drew a name from those who paid fines at Rotary during the last two months, and Joel Jelkin was the winner of a $10 HyVee gas card.  Congratulations to both of them.  It pays to attend Rotary.

Thus far, we have had 74 Rotarians contribute $11,095 toward the Rotary Foundation in our 2015 – 2016 campaign.  We still have over 30 Rotarians who have yet to contribute.  I am certain they were waiting to have it count as a tax deduction on their 2016 taxes, so for those of you left to contribute, please get it to me soon.  We want to have 100% participation for the second year in a row.

Don’t forget to reserve a space at our upcoming fundraiser.  You should have gotten an invitation in the mail last week inviting you to the Dueling Pianos party set for February 12th at the Fremont Golf Club. The success of this event is key to our ability to fund the projects we do as a club, so plan to attend.  Last year’s event was a huge success, and hopefully with your support, this one will be also.

Finally, the January 29th Rotary meeting and Rotary Board meeting will be at Midland University in the Presidential Dining Room in the MU Dining Hall.  The FGC will be closed on the 29th, so Midland University is allowing us to have our meeting there.  Mark your calendar for this alternate location for January 29th.  The buffet lunch that day will be $8.00.

Have a great week, and see you at Rotary.
