Rotary – April 24, 2015 – Suzanne Smith – The Bridge


 

Suzanne Smith has been with The Bridge serving as Executive Director for the past 17 years.  She has 27 years of experience working with the issues of domestic abuse and sexual assault.  Suzanne began her career working for Catholic Charities in Council Bluffs, Iowa coordinating their Domestic Violence Program for 8 years.  During that time she also coordinated the Parents United Program for families where incest has occurred and ran the counties Phoenix Program (for men who batter).  Prior to coming to The Bridge, Suzanne coordinated the Legal Advocacy Services and Public Education Programming for the YWCA (Women Against Violence Program) in Omaha.  Suzanne has served on the Nebraska Domestic Violence Sexual Assault Coalition Board of Directors, on the Nebraska Commission on Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice’s Crime Commission Grant Review Team, the Federal Title 1 School Grant Review Committee and the Nebraska Homeless Assistance Program Grant Review Committee.  She was a founding member and served on the Nebraska Batterer’s Intervention Program State Standards Committee.  She has testified before the Iowa and Nebraska State Legislature and has provided Expert Witness testimony in Nebraska District Court.  Suzanne is Fremont High Graduate and graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology.
