President Steve’s weekly comments – January 26th – 30th

Good morning Rotarians!

I have a couple of announcements for club members.  First off, I am looking for Rotarians to assist with the annual Fly-In Breakfast in August.  A committee needs to be formed to orchestrate the event.  The process starts in March, which would be the committee’s first ‘organizational’ meeting.  The club has a resource manual that provides a timeline for planning as well as past experience to assist this project.

Secondly, 5650 District is sponsoring the Rotary Youth Leadership Camp again this year.  We had students participate last year and reported back to the club as to what a great experience it was.  I’d like someone to take this project on and recruit one to two students again this year.

Here is some information below concerning Rotary Youth Leadership Camp.  You will also find this information on our club website on the Links pages.

Dear Rotary Club officer,

I am writing to remind you of the District 5650 Rotary Youth Leadership Camp for 2015.  It will be held at Camp Kitaki (near Louisville) April 17-19, 2015.  The camp is focused on leadership development and how students can help improve their communities and the larger world.  It is modeled directly after Rotary core principles and has been very well received by students.  All the RYLA forms including the club commitment form are on the District 5650 website (as well as the Fremont Rotary website under ‘Links’) and have been since prior to last years conference.  I urge you to start the process of contacting schools and urging counselors to nominate candidates.  Eligible students are high school juniors with evidence of leadership potential.  Clubs have done a great job the past 3 years promoting gender and ethnic diversity in their nominations.  Thank YOU for that!  I am enclosing the club commitment form so you can see the dates for submission of candidates.  I would view the dates as a guideline, not a hard and fast rule as we have always done tried to accommodate late nominations.  That said, it helps us in our preparation to know as soon as possible who will be attending.

This year District Governor and executive council have agreed to help partially underwrite the cost of student participation.  The district will assist clubs to the extent of $100 per club for one student and possibly two.  The second scholarship is dependent on how many student RYLA nominations over all are received.

The cost for clubs nominating students remains $200 per student and we are hoping for 2 students per club.  That said, some clubs have nominated 1 person another 4-6.  The more the merrier actually as long as we have the paperwork (and check) for each nominee.

We are also hoping that this year all the inbound international students will be able to participate.

Please go to the District website, (as well as the Fremont Rotary website and Links page) to view past camp evaluations and student comments.  They were quite positive.

Best wishes,

Tom Cardwell

Gary is on vacation and will miss the next couple of meetings.  The REMINDER is about the Foundation drive, please help out if you have not already given yet this year!

AND FINALLY, John Sajevic would have won the drawing last week!  So SORRY, John!

VP elect Darrell Puls is filling in for Gary concerning the drawing the next two weeks.

See you at Midland University TOMORROW!
